The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation, Mr. Oluseyi Whenu, gave out the warning to top LASTMA officials. He ordered the officers to book offenders instead of impounding their vehicles.
“That is the minimum we owe the people of the state,” he said, adding that LASTMA should synergise with other security agencies to ensure enforcement of Lagos Road Traffic Law 2012. The permanent secretary implored Lagosians to reciprocate government’s efforts by obeying traffic rules.
The question is: Will Lagosians obey traffic laws? Even with the huge arrests LASTMA carry out, do people obey the laws? I hope the Lagos State Government knows what they are doing. I don't think Nigeria has enough data base for what Lagos State is planning to do. They should see beyond Lagos. What happens if a vehicle comes from another state, let's say Kwara and breaks traffic law. What happens? Will he just drive away without any punishment? How will authorities in Kwara make him pay his ticket? This is not America yet!
