A 13-year old school dropout, Mohammed Amidu Yaaba alias Habib is alleged to have stabbed and killed his colleague at Kalpohin a suburb of the Tamale Metropolis during a wedding reception.
The deceased, Sulemana Haruna, 20 and a primary 6 pupil of Nyanshegu Primary School was stabbed on his left chest with a kitchen knife by the accused but was pronounced dead on arrival at Tamale Teaching Hospital by doctors.
According to preliminary police investigations, both were guests at a wedding reception of their colleague but the accused in the course of dancing, claimed the deceased stepped on the foot of his fiancé and retaliated in equal measure.
It was gathered that the deceased did not take kindly to the actions of the accused and accosted him on his way home with a kitchen knife and allegedly stabbed him in his stomach.
Mohammed Amidu Yaaba angered by the actions of the deceased managed to seize the knife from him and stabbed him in the chest killing him on the spot.
Other road users rushed to the help of the victim who was unconscious by transporting him to the Tamale Teaching Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival with a post mortem examination revealing that the knife pierced his ribs and chest.
The suspect who was later arrested by residents and handed over to police admitted committing the offence in his caution statement but indicated that it was out of provocation.
He has since been arraigned before a Tamale District Magistrate Court 1 presided over by Anthony Assah, provisionally charged for murder and remanded in prison custody to reappear in a fortnight to enable prosecutors forward the document to the Attorney Generals Department for advice.
