Tipper kills Two Pedestrians At Ota After Brake Failure

A tipper with plate reg. no KRD 571 XM ran into three innocent pedestrians in Ota on Sunday after its brake failed. The victims were rushed to the hospital, where two of them later died. The tipper was on its way from Abeokuta to Lagos.

According to the Unit Commander of Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Mr. Olonisaye
Olufemi, who spoke with NAN, the accident occurred around 3:45pm. He attributed the cause to poor maintenace culture among the tipper owners and over-speeding.

He said: “It must be stated that the owners of these tippers must ensure their proper maintenance before putting them on the road in order not to endanger other people’s lives.
“Again, their drivers must also maintain 50km per hour speed limit for their kind of vehicles.”
Olonisaye also appealed to pedestrians to observe necessary precautions before crossing the road.
“People should not just dash across the road without observing the necessary precautions. It is dangerous to do so,’’ he warned
