Uganda government has jailed nine prominent Islamic clerics over recent murders and terrorism. The arrested sheikhs are Sheikhs Kamoga, Siraje Kawooya, Abdul salaam Sekayanja, Mubiru

The men have however, petitioned the court against their arrest. The group are among several others seeking court’s declaratory orders denouncing police action of arresting them without reasonable cause.

“Your petitioners state that their arrest without reasonable cause, unlawful detention, charge and prosecution was done/being done illegally and in gross violation of your petitioners fundamental rights and in dereliction of the constitutional duty of the DPP [Director of Public Prosecutions] which is inconsistent with several provisions of the constitution,” the petition reads in part.
